Bahrain And Russia


The pro-democracy protests in Bahrain have been going on for more than a year now but the West will keep on turning a blind eye to human rights in the country as long as it acts in accordance with US [1%] interests, says journalist Patrick Henningsen.


Sen. John Kerry said the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will consider a bill named for Sergei Magnitsky, a lawyer who testified against Russian interior ministry officials, was arrested and later died, Reuters reports.

The Sergei Magnitsky bill would require the United States to deny visas and freeze the assets of Russians or others with links to his detention and death, as well as those who commit human rights violations against other whistle-blowers like him.
