Pain Ahead!

Recall the trillions of dollars announced as unaccounted for in the Pentagon, the day before 9/11/01.  Never found.  Nobody went to jail.  Recall the trillions spent on Iraq, Afghanistan and a host of other unnecessary conflicts around the world.  And now this:

The debt “super committee” makes its budget recommendations on Wednesday, November 23rd, the day before Thanksgiving.

We know that the recommendations will include deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.

We know that the Republicans in the Senate and House will overwhelmingly approve of the austerity package that is sure to come from the super committee’s recommendations.

We also know that the Democrats will by and large fold and accept the austerity package.

I never understood the point of the Super Committee other than to create more gridlock which would force the austerity cuts that neither the White House nor the larger Congress (in general) want to be responsible for implementing. How best do we prepare for the coming changes?
